For our first full day in the Netherlands we planned to go to Madurodam. Elizabeth had been there when she was a child and had happy memories of it. Madurodam is a model village inspired by Bekonscot with Dutch landmarks and towns. We had a wonderful time. There were lots of trains, a motorway with moving vehicles, boats and taxiing planes and plenty of interactive things to do. It is in The Hague and was only 30 minutes from our hotel.
We had a quick shop in Lidl and then came back to the hotel. It was a lovely sunny evening so, as we had free entry, we decided to visit the bird park next to our hotel. What a treat! We saw flamingos, pelicans, nesting storks and lemurs to name but a few. We have free entry for the duration of our stay so will definitely return.
