Today was Efteling. We didn't really know what to expect. Catherine had heard about it and Grandma Penny said she visited when she was a girl so we knew it had been around a few years. We learned that it was soon to celebrate it's 75th birthday so it's older than the Disney parks.
It was a chilly morning so we were well wrapped up. First stop was the steam train that went around the park. We thought it would be popular with James and so it proved to be.
Efteling is very big indeed and beautifully laid out. There were lots of people there but it never felt crowded. Next stops were Monorail and Symbolica. We then went on the carousel followed by a visit to a fantastic diorama model railway which unsurprisingly was a big hit with Graeme and James.
Further rides were ???? and a lovely boat ride. We then soared into the air on the pagoda for an amazing view. James then had fun driving a car round a track and finally went went on Efteling's answer to Disney's "It's a Small World" which was "Carnaval Festival".
Overall we absolutely loved the park. It was a refreshing change from the Disney parks with lots of things for all ages (but maybe mostly younger ones) and plenty of eating spots and places to sit.
The entrance fee
was far lower than Disney and we barely covered half the park in the day. Well
worth a visit if you are ever in the area.
